Marketing your business online can be overwhelming. Do you agree? As business owners we have so many choices as to where we can connect with people, build relationships, and gain trust. There are the “big three” – Facebook, Twitter, and LinkedIn. Other popular sites are YouTube, Google+, Pinterest, Tumblr, Posterous, and a host of others. Do we really have to have a presence on all of them?
I say – NO – we do not have to be everywhere! We only have to be where we KNOW our clients are hanging out. For instance, if your target market spends most of their time engaging in conversation with others on Facebook – why in the world would you spend your efforts on Tumblr? Sure, you might find your target client there. You might think you need a presence on Tumblr, but should you put in as much effort into Tumblr as you would on Facebook?
Right now, if I owned a business with lots of products – I would be spending the bulk of my time on Pinterest. Pinterest is image based…doesn’t it make sense to post your products here – especially since millions and millions of users are scouring Pinterest for products?
My point is that you should spend your time and efforts in the right place. Don’t use Google+ just because someone told you that it’s the latest and greatest. Google+ may not be the venue for your business if your target clients are not using it.
Confession – I’m not a huge fan of Google+. I’m not comfortable there, and for the most part – a lot of my Google+ connections are also my Facebook connections. Why tell them the same thing on both sites? Yes – for search engine optimization, I suppose being everywhere is helpful. But your time is precious.
What do you think? Do you have a presence everywhere… and if yes – why? Is it working for you? Leave your comments below.
